An English violin bow by W E Hill & Sons, c.1930. £5,000.

This bow is by Hill maker Sidney Yeoman (1876-1948). Yeoman was a fine bow maker who had originally been hired as an odd-job man. He was trained by Hill maker Sam Allen who requested that he learn bow making in order to help meet demand in the shop. Yeoman worked at Hill's until 1914 when he left to fight in the Great War. He returned uninjured, but suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
